Tuesday morning class at Huntly Inspire Day Centre will finish on 6 December and restart on Tuesday 17 January.

All other classes and workshops will finish week ending Saturday 26 November and restart week beginning 30 January 2012 (weather permitting!!).

New Huntly Class

There will be a new beginners class starting on:
Tuesday 1st November from 2-3pm in the Linden Centre.
The cost will be £4 (£3 concession).
New students and those wishing to refresh are all welcome - just get on your loose, comfy clothing and flat, indoor shoes and join us in the Strathbogie room. We'll be doing some tai chi and some chi kung.

I look forward to seeing new and previous students.

Huntly Community Wellbeing Festival

Its been a good few months since I last posted anything, mainly due to the business of life -and tenosynovitis! The latter has meant I've had to stop using weapons for a while to see if that has any effect. Apart from that I've been busy doing workshops during the holidays for different groups.

I've been asked a number of times for a new beginners class. I may do a 6 week course after the tattie holidays - so watch this space.

Last week, one of the centre members died suddenly. This week was his funeral so the class on Tuesday was touched by sadness. Farewell to our friend Steven, a gentle man.

I've dug out to the road and now have to tackle the ice wall left by the snow plough -hoe and weed wand are best for this -the old slash and burn technique - and clear last night's snow.

However, I am really dubious about driving, particularly after dark when everything ices up quickly - and students have rural roads like mine to negotiate - so best to be safe and cancel all classes this week.

As the roads up here are utterly atrocious (I'm told by a farmer neighbour who did a mail run into Huntly this morning) I'm cancelling all classes and workshops this week.

Mark Raudva's October Workshops

Mark's workshops will take place during October in Fetternear Hall :
Friday 15th: 7-10pm Ta Lu
Saturday 16th to Monday 18th: 2-5 pm and 6.30-9.30pm.
Each 3 hour session costs £15 (or £10 for agreed reductions with Mark).
If any of my students wish to attend the Saturday afternoon session (best for beginners), please let me know.

- 7.00-8.30 for beginners and new starts
- 7.30-9.00 for restarts/intermediates.
Classes in Elgin are currently homeless! but watch this space!

Relay for Life

The Huntly Relay for Life for Cancer Research was held last weekend and raised the interim sum of £44,000. This will increase considerably when all fundraising money comes in.

A good number of walkers from the teams came to our Tai Chi session at 7am on Sunday which we held in one of the marquees to keep out the worst of the wind and rain!!

A great weekend of walking, events, fun, wonderful moving ceremonies and fundraising.

Next week, beginning 20 June, is the last week for this session of classes, apart from Huntly Resource Centre which continues all year.

This has been the worst winter for cancellations - we lost nearly a full term because of the atrocious weather. However, the great enthusiasm of students has virtually made up for all the lost classes.

We will restart in September; watch the blog for details.

I'm planning a short summer beginners session in Keith -I'll post dates and times shortly. It will be held in a lovely sustainable cafe/farm just outside Keith.

Cancer Research Relay for Life is taking place again in Huntly in July this year. Last year, a massive sum of £100,000 was raised- not bad for a wee place! The relay lasts for 24 hours and folk camp on the field overnight.

I'll be doing the survivor's lap again, and this year I've been asked to do the opening on Sunday morning with a Tai Chi session at 7am. Last year, the weather was fabulous, so here's hoping its good again.

I hope everyone has a great summer despite the absence so far of summer weather!

Not fun anymore - mair classes cancelled

I've had to cancel this evening's class because of the state of the roads up here: (treacherous enough during the day but hideous in the dark). So, I've decided to give in and am abandoning this term for evening classes.

I'll restart at the Tin Hut on 7 April at 7.30pm.

I sincerely hope to see folk then!!??!!

Today the snow is half way up my door. I've had to cancel a workshop session I was doing on Friday evening in Rothiemay as I can't see me getting there (or even out my drive!) by then.
I think the prospect of getting to Fetternear for the weekend sessions with Caro is also pretty remote.

New Class - Advance notice

There will be a new class starting in Elgin at the Red Shoes Theatre on Wednesday mornings in March : "An Introduction to T'ai Chi" will run for 4 weeks from Wednesday 3rd March to 24th March. Fees will be advised nearer the time.

The class will cover the basic principles of T'ai Chi such as relaxing, sinking, listening, yielding and softness. We will look at warm-up exercises, Chi Kung, some simplified partner work and the first postures of the solo form.

If successful, the class will continue after the Easter holidays. If anyone wishes more information, please contact me as on the left of the blog.

I've just got back from Oz (45c to 5c!) and although I've managed to clear a route thro' the snow for my car, I'm climbing over a 5ft mountain of ice blocks and snow at my door! Fabby holiday, staying with lots of family in different places, making friends with alpacas, watching eagles and sea-kayaking, but unfortunately my suitcase didn't return with me. January Sessions

For the January sessions, the Tin Hut class will start at 7pm for new students and 7.30 for current students.

Depending on the number of new students, the start times of Elgin classes will be reviewed when I return from holiday on 13th January.

Festive holidays

All classes are finishing next week for about 6 weeks (while I am sunning myself in Oz with my many relatives!)
Huntly and Gartly classes will recommence week beginning 17th January while Elgin classes will restart a week later.
When I return, I'll be looking at the possibility of opening a class in the Keith area; in March, I'll be exploring more classes in Moray.

From August 25th a new beginners class starts on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8pm in the Brander Library (or garden), Huntly for 6 weeks as part of the "Palace of Puzzles" China Summer Programme organised by Deveron Arts. If successful, this class will be continued. All are welcome to come along and try tai chi.

Wednesday 12 to 1pm in Red Shoes Theatre for Moray Council staff, friends and public restarts on 16th September; soup/sandwich lunch can be available in cafe rouge.
Wednesday 7.30 to 9.00pm, open community class in Tin Hut, Gartly restarts on 9 September;
Thursday 10 to 11am in Red Shoes Theatre for theatre staff, friends and public restarts on 17 September.
